Major General Ian Cardozo
Major General Ian Cardozo, a retired officer of the Indian Army, holds the distinction of being the first war-disabled officer to lead both a battalion and a brigade. His amputation, a result of a war injury, did not deter him from joining the 5 Gorkha Rifles (Frontier Force), where he eventually earned a commission and went on to command the 1st Battalion of the 5th Regiment of Gorkha Rifles. Notably, he is the inaugural National Defence Academy (NDA) cadet to be honored with both gold and silver medals. Apart from his military achievements, Major General Ian Cardozo is an accomplished author, having penned several books such as "Param Vir: Our Heroes in Battle," "1971: Stories of Grit and Glory from the Indo-Pak War," "Hoshiar Singh," and others. Among his recent literary works is the publication titled "Beyond Fear: True Stories on Life in the Indian Armed Forces."
