Ada E. Yonath is an Israeli crystallographer known for her research work on the atomic structure and function of ribosomes. In 2009, Yonath received the Nobel Prize in Chemistry along with Venkatraman Ramakrishnan and Thomas A. Steitz. She is also the first Israeli woman to win the Nobel Prize. Yonath received several awards, including the first European Crystallography Prize in 2000, the Harvey Prize in 2002, the Wolf Prize in Chemistry in 2006, the L`Oréal-UNESCO Award for Women in Science in 2008, the Albert Einstein World Award of Science in 2008, and the Marie Curie Medal in 2011. Currently, she serves as the director of the Helen and Milton A. Kimmelman Center for Biomolecular Structure and Assembly of the Weizmann Institute of Science.
