Kerala Literature Festival 2019 on its first day hosted a session called 'Tales of Independence and Belonging' at the venue, Thulika. The pannel consisted of Caryl Lewis, Llyr Gwyn Lewis and Elin Haf Griffyd Johns as the moderator. Caryl Lewis is an award-winning writer who has published eleven books in Welsh for adults ,three novels for young-adults and thirteen children's books. Gwyn Lewis has published poetry, fiction and articles in periodicals. His first prose work, Rhyn Flodau Rhyfel won in the creative non-fiction category in theyear 2015 as the Welsh Book of the Year. The session began with a question raised by Elin Haf when she asked the poets to share their sense of belonging in the literature world. Both the authors are known for their writings in their rural dialect.The works from them depict their love for rural lives.Their works mainly deal with the changes they had dealt with post-world war. Caryl suggested that the rural lives began to change into urban when she moved from her homeland.Their stories also unveiled the terrible lives of immigrants.
Towards the end of the session, they discussed about their roles in modern media and about reaching a large audience. Both answered that they stay passive as listeners. Caryl suggested that she would love to reach her people through her words.The session concluded with Mr.P.K. Murali complimenting the panel.
