Born: September 1944; M.Sc. (Botany), Ph.D. (Biochemistry); retired as a college teacher in Botany ( 2004 ) after almost 40 years.
A bilingual poet, critic, translator, editor, he writes both in Marathi and Hindi and occasionally in English. He has published 54 books among which 42 are in Marathi and 12 in Hindi; 4 collections of poems in Marathi and 1 collection of poems in Hindi. He has worked as a guest editor for 6 Marathi and 6 Hindi literary journals, poems and articles included in many Marathi, Hindi and English anthologies, books etc. He was actively engaged in Little Magazine Movement in Marathi during ‘60s and ‘70s. He was one of the editors and publishers of the highly discussed journal” Wacha” and was one of the founders of Wacha Prakashan.
Chandrakant Patil is the recipient of more than 16 National and State-level awards including Sahitya Akademi Translation award (1991), Souhard Sammaan ,UP (1993) , Maharashtra Foundation award, Maharashtra Bharati, All India National Award in Hindi, 5 Maharashtra State Awards, Gajanan Madhav Muktibodh Puraskaar, Meera Smriti Sammaan, Allahabad, Mahatma Gandhi Aantar raashtreey Hindi Vishwavidyalay Sammaan, Vardha, etc. He was awarded the first Shrikant Varma National Fellowship for translation by Bharat Bhavan, Bhopal, M.P (1987)
He has participated in many International, National and State level seminars, symposia, poetry recitals etc, represented as a member of Indian delegations of writers to China, South Africa, Dubai, etc, has organized a number of seminars for Madhya Pradesh Sahitya Parishad, Marathi Sahitya Parishad Andhra Pradesh, Marathwada Sahitya parishad, Aurangabad, Braganza Institute, Goa, TV centers Nagpur and Dehara Doon, etc.
He has worked as a member of many National and State-level committees including Indian National Commission for Unesco, C I I L Mysore, NCERT Focus Group, National Book Trust, India, Akhil Bharateey Marathi Sahitya Mahamandal, Marathwada Sahitya Parishad, Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi etc. He has worked as a jury member for Kabir Sammaan (Madhya Pradesh), Kendreey Hindi Nideshalay, New Delhi, Sahitya Akademi awards in Marathi and Hindi, Gyanpeeth Award etc.
