G. Arunima is Professor at the Centre for Women’s Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University, and presently Scholar in Residence at the Kerala Council for Historical Research. She has researched and published widely on both the historical and the contemporary contexts of India, focusing particularly on cultural, visual and material texts, and rethinking the politics of the contemporary.
Her research concerns on different areas of contemporary politics have focused on a range of themes - food cultures; community identities; contemporary histories of violence and resistance; higher education; and different aspects of theorizing gender based rights. Large parts of these have been presented in both academic and other venues, and some of it has been published. She hopes to bring parts of this together as a book on thinking the contemporary in India.
