Shajahan Madampat is a writer and cultural commentator, writing in Malayalam, English and occasionally in Arabic. He has to his credit three books in Malayalam, in addition to numerous essays and articles published in leading journals and newspapers such as The Hindu, Huffington Post, Outlook, Gulf News, Khaleej Times, Bahrain Tribune, Biblio, Mainstream, Mathrubhumi Weekly, Kalakaumudi weekly, Madhyamam Weekly, Bhashaposhini and Pachakkuthira. Much of his writings over the past four years appeared in Outlook, an Indian weekly current affairs magazine. He currently writes a fortnightly column titled Word & World for Outlook. He holds a Master’s degree in Arabic Literature and M. Phil in International Studies with specialization in Middle Eastern Studies, both from the Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. He lives and works in Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates.
