On the third day of KLF 2018 the OFIR stage hosted a very enchanting conversation with the young and immigrant writer Deepak Unnikrishnan. The session began with a short narration from his well known work ‘Temporary People’. The whole conversation was based on this work.
Deepak spoke about the different scenario of being an Indian by paper but AbuDhabi by heart. Regarding his book he stated that a book can be everything that you want it to be. And so whatever response it may be he would welcome it with both hands. He opined that language is all about communications. It is not something to show how well educated one person is. He expressed his emotions and thoughts by switching back and forth from Malayalam to English. Te reason for this he claimed was because Malayalam reminded him if his family it denoted his affection for the language. He informed that his novel is all about people who left their home and dreams of coming back. He assures from certain portions of the book by the moderator made the listeners more excited. There was an active interactive section where Deepak spoke about the advantages he gained being a person who could reside in different countries but at the same time he claim that he will never be a global; citizen. By informing about the preparation of his next book the session was winded up.
