The second day was kick started with a mind blowing session with Ganesh N Devy’s talk on the topic “ The threat to Indian Diversity” at the venue Aksharam.
The session which started by analyzing different orders of diversity proceeded with examining the degree of compressed language, which according to Devy are made nameless, faceless and address less.
“A language is a unique world view” said Devy while explaining how 250 languages have perished in India within the past 50 years.
He also expressed his anxieties on how the people who think differently are silenced in this country, taking the murders of Kalburgi and Gauri Lankesh into account.
“When India became a modern nation we passed through a process of struggle called Freedom Struggle, Freedom is not liberty” added Devy while he analyzed the present political conditions of India. He also asked the people to be fearless and courageous in the political sphere, empathetic I the cultural sphere and to preserve the peace in oneself. The talk became more enthusiastic and audience friendly when Devy hesitates to speak on the stage and came down to the audience.
He concluded his words on telling “Literature imagination and art are the hope of a country and our country has plenty of it”.
Since M V Narayanan could not attend the session due to some inconveniences, Josy Jose carried out the duty of translator and made the session wonderful.
