Last day of the Kerala Literature Festival 2019 saw Sarah Joseph attending session with Civic Chandran. They talked about Sara Joseph’s book, 'Budhini'. Sarah Joseph gave a detailed history on the background of Budhini.
Sara Joseph said that Budhini was the first labourer in the country who got the opportunity to inaugurate a dam. Sarah Joseph said that the way Budhini was banished from her homeland by the society was on pointless grounds. She opined that in this era of development, the story of Budhini has to have a place in the society and that is why she has written the book. Sarah Joseph further talked about the life of Budhini who somehow survived the hostility of the society but yet ended up committing suicide.
Civic Chandran also joined the discussion and said that that the novel 'Budhini' would do better in English language than in Malayalam, audience ensured their support with a round of applause. Regarding the same, Sarah Joseph mentioned that her daughter is currently translating the work. The talk concluded with Civic Chandran saying that a Malayali's reading limits to just newspapers.
