The session "Should We Have More Surveillance than the USSR" on Day 3 of KLF 2019 saw American software programmer Richard Stallman reveal the evils of smart gadgets that have become part of everyone's life. Stallman was introduced to all by Hrishikesh Bhaskar. He referred to them as "Spy gadgets" that illegally collect data of an individual. He also criticized multinational companies, such as Google, Facebook, Twitter, etc. stating that they constantly track the user without his or her knowledge and permission."Facebook does not have users. It has 'useds',’ said Stallman.
The policy of the Indian government making it compulsory to link anything and everything with Aadhar card was strongly condemned during the session. Richard Stallman urged the audience to start a protest against the forced surveillance of the State. He also demanded everyone to quit social media platforms as they are constantly being tracked. Richard Stallman emphasised the importance of developing free software which would wipeout the non-free ones from the market.
An auction of a Guinea doll was held towards the end of the session. Stallman also said that he would invest the money collected from the auction in developing a free software and requested everyone to be a part of this movement.
