The 2nd day of the KLF 2019 witnessed a session called The Paradoxical Prime Minister wherein the journalist of the UAE newspaper, The Khaleej Times, Anjana Sankar in conversation with Dr. Shashi Tharoor was in discussion with who was his very best. Tharoor left the crowd scratching their heads on the Sabarimala issue
Dr. Shashi Tharoor projected his impression of Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi and made it clear that he once had greater expectations from him which leads to the question why? To which he answered that he gave the new Prime Minister benefit of doubt, having faith on the citizen’s decision, moreover Modi had promised some liberal pronouncements. He also said that those pronouncements were the yardsticks Modi was judged on which soon proved that those were all just false promises, and that he just keeps on changing goal posts as with the demonetization issue.
Not only did Mr. Tharoor talk about the current situation of the ruling government, he also opined about the rules which have gone against the fundamental rights of artists. He further added that if Congress were to win the next elections, which he hopes, this would be one of the first things he personally would push to be changed.
By the end of the session, Dr.Tharoor commented on the Sabarimala issue, saying that he would not agree with the new law as it goes against many believers, and as a representative he could not agree with something that would go against his people’s belief.
The Malayalam translation of ‘The Paradoxical Prime Minister’ was officially released at the platform of Kerala Literature Festival.
