Nehru jacket is rebaptised as the Modi jacket!
One of the most vibrant sessions of the 4th edition of KLF, 'Makers of Modern India - Nehru the discovery of India', based on the book 'Nehru: The Invention of India' stood apart due to the mass participation and shashi Tharoor's vibrant speech. Harshad M.T. began the session, introducing the book and later raised questions regarding the relevance of the book in the current political scenario of the country, to which Tharoor relied that the government in power today has been constantly trying to repudiate what Nehru did and hence it is important to have a book written upon Nehru.
Tharoor explained it be utter "nonsense", addressing Nehru as a dynast rather than a democrat and stated historic facts which clearly revealed the role of Nehru as the "Maker of Modern India".
When asked about hindutva and hinduism, Tharoor was quoted as saying that, "Hindutva has nothing to do with hinduism. It is a political doctrine." He also added that congress has been recapturing the authentic 'hinduism' apart from from the hindutva agenda promoted by the BJP. Tharoor's sarcastic comments on PM Narendra Modi constantly evoked laughter in the crowd and when asked to make a comparison of Modi and Nehru, he stated that, "Nehru jacket is rebaptised as the Modi jacket."
