A very interesting session was held at the venue of Kerala Literature Festival between the renowned author K.R Meera and a very famous kannada writer Dr. K.S Bhagavan . Dr. Bhagavan has a very strong view about the Ramayana, where when every other person sees Rama as a God, the reincarnation of Lord Vishnu, Dr. Bhagavan pointed out that in Valmiki Ramayana it was written that Rama is a mere man who had his own set of faults. He consumed alcohol and promoted the four tier cast system. He was a husband who banished his pregnant wife into the woods. So the question Dr. Bhagavan asks was “How is Rama an ideal man?” The teachings of Buddha and the path of ultimate enlightening are the ideologies Dr. Bhagavan follows. He said “I stopped visiting temples about 50 years ago. We have a religion and that is Buddhism. When he was asked “While you are talking on the topic and as you are on the hit list yourself, aren’t you treading on a very risky line?”. He replied laughing “I am not afraid of the fact the fact that I am in the “hit list”. I am too eager to let people know what I think about God.” Moreover, he continues sayings if we had our people to forget about fundamental rights and do your fundamental duties.
His ideas on the no religion policy or on one religion policy saying that no god is going to save you, we, humans, will have to save ourselves, promote development of the country using the money used to build temples in the building schools and hospitals, to service humans with the profile. The talk ended with a very actively participated interactive session, which left everyone something to think about in the end.
