Many points were discussed during the session, Ladies Coupe Unchained on Day 2 at the Kerala Literature Festival 2019, wherein Indian litterateur Indu Menon was in conversation renowned Indian English language writer Anita Nair. The topics discussed varied from the condition of Indian politics to the laws we abide by.
Indu Menon reasoned that the time is changing and the mentality and adaption of people are also changing along with it. She further shared her belief that mentality changes and flourishes only when every writer, every artist questions the contemporary. Indu Menon made a comment on the current situation in Kerala, saying that the most popular thing today is getting a licence to do anything in the name of God.
Agreeing with the Judiciary judgment of letting women enter the temple, Anita Nair commented that there are other issues which are of more importance that we need to focus on.
Many questions were asked during the last ten minutes, giving more clarity to the discussion. One question that stood out was one that was asked to Anita Nair. It was about what should one connect one’s national sentiment to? Should it be the national boundaries, which keep on changing. Anita Nair cleverly answered saying that she doesn’t believe in boundaries and that we need to be a bit more selfless and help out our neighbours to begin with. The session ended on a good note as it gave an insight to many issues that were not touched upon before.
