The much awaited and interesting conversation between M. Nandakumar, famous short story writer and novelist and, Conor Kostick, famous short story writer was held at the Kerala Literature Festival at 1:30pm to 2:30pm. The conversation was mainly focused on Mr.Kostick’s notable work ‘Epic’, a sci-fi futuristic novel and the first of the Avatar trilogy.
Mr. Nandakumar gave a brief description of the story. ‘Epic” is a story that takes place in a world called “New Earth” and follows the life of a boy named Erik Haraldson and his involvement in a game called Epic. The story is set a far in the future. The story is accessible and of interest to both the gender especially young adult boys with an interest in gaming. In the game, if a community wishes to redress a perceived injustice they may challenge Central Allocations (C.A); a group of powerful nine individuals.
Nandakumar and Conor Korsick discusses about the importance of virtuality in this world. Conor says that science fictions represent chaos of time and futuristic visions. He also converse about the new generation and videogames where Conor says “there is a positive aspect for video games where the children can reinvent themselves and they could be wherever they want”. He also expressed his views on the selfie generation that everything in the world is, at a point, mortalised and people taking selfies and sharing it on social Medias like Instagram is not a great contribution to the human culture.
After almost an hour of conversation there was a interaction session held in the end and he wished all the young aspiring writers their best.
