The 8th session of KLF 2019, Rebuild Kerala: The rise of sunken Kerala was held at stage 3, Tulika at 11:00 a.m. the session was moderated by Manila C. Mohan, renowed journalist who initiated the discussion by outlining post-flood situation of Kerala and introducing the panel which consisted of V.S. Vijayan, T.P. Kunhikannan, Anil Kumar P.P., A.P.M. Mohammad Hanish and Prashanth Nair IAS.
V.S. Vijayan, prominent Indian Environmentalist began by criticizing the state's inability to follow the suggestions proposed in 2012 Gadgil Report to take preventive measures.When asked to speak about the role of the Government in rebuilding Kerala, A.P.M. Mohammed Hanish pointed out the inadequacy of funds and the need for the extensive open data for prioritising the fund distribution. He further spoke about the changes to be brought about into the educational system to instil a civic sense in youth.
Prashanth nair, IAS, Former Collector of Kozhikode emphasized the role played by youth in rescue and relief activities and the need to channelize societal excitement into innovative tasks. Further T.P. Kunhikannan, president of Kerala Sasthra Sahithya Parishad, spoke about the importance of developing a master plan for kerala focussing on land usage planning and zonation, and the importance of framing locally specific laws.
The session was concluded by Anil Kumar P.P. who stressed upon the need for compact urbanization with the help of Artificial Intelligence and Information Technology, followed by an active interactive session with the audience.
