We all have those incredible moments of realization where we finally decide to break free from the shell we are bound in and decide to start again. The journey of Bhavaindia is one of such stories of inspiration. A social enterprise, Bhavaindia provides eco-friendly alternatives to daily living amenities by producing, upcycling and recycling materials. In their words, “A way of living that is in tandem with our environment is unarguably the best way to live.”
We are so used to the usual and the ordinary that we do not dare to step out of our comfort zone until the situation pulls us out of it. Bhavaindia’s story started when they took up a project on Vembanad Lake and realized the extent of plastic pollution the longest lake in India was affected with. That was an eye-opener for them. They realized that there are no more tomorrows to do something to change the way we live harming the environment.
Bhavaindia continues to help build a community of environmentally conscious people. They develop eco-friendly alternatives for daily use products such as toothbrush, pens, carry bags etc. They use sarees and bed sheets to produce bags, thus passing on Indian heritage and the message of women empowerment. Bhavaindia helped themselves by helping others. The production of some of the products is done by SHGs consisting of women from rural areas thus providing an additional income to their family. They also give the women an option to work from home and log in to work at any time of the day.
KLF 2019 is proud to join hands with Bhavaindia to help them develop a marketplace for alternative products that are more desirable and sustainable to keep the fragile eco-system intact and reverse the trend of depletion. The 400 bags we bought from Bhavaindia gave 40 hours of work to 10 people and 60 kilos of sarees were upcycled. Another interesting addition in these bags is the small pouch inside every bag where we can fold the entire bag and keep it inside the pouch when we do not need them and can carry it anywhere.
The most meaningful journey in life is the journey within. We do not care until our own roots are affected. Let’s rethink and do what we can to help Bhavaindia which in the long run would help ourselves maintain a cleaner environment!
