Calling Malayali's sex life a disaster, Muralee Thummarukudy, disaster management expert at the United Nations and an author, emphasized the need to normalize sex in our society. In conversation with Anjana Sankar at Kerala Literature Festival, he opined that with a generation of children who learn about sex from pornography we need think seriously of age appropriate sex education and more healthier public discussions.
The conversation mainly focused on the unacceptable and regressive notions that Kerala as a society pose about sexuality and sexual life. With countries that we usually blame for sexual anarchy standing high in terms of sexual honesty, Mr.Thummarukudy said that there is nothing wrong in accepting measures from foreign policies as well. The speakers discussed the need of scientific and statistical studies to understand closely the power equations of sex.
Inspired by the liberal approach of our culture towards sexuality they held a common opinion that we should aim to establish a modern society in which the sexual life of old aged, differently abled is properly addressed.
Athirukalillatha Lokam a book by Mr. Thummmarukkudy was released by Mr.Prasanth Nair IAS and Anjana Sankar after the discussion.
