The second day of the Kerala Literature Festival saw a battle of ideas and perceptions, in the session titled Maoism and Islamism. P Jayarajan, K Venu and C Davood expressed their views for and against the revolutionary idea that shaped the world and a religion that is often misinterpreted and understood, debated the panellists.
It is curiosity that awakened in the common man when they hear of the word Maoist, and not a yearning to become one noted K Venu. ‘The Maoists today are the bits and bobs of an old naxalite groups,’ said P Jayarajan. He also quoted that Islamists are protecting the Maoists. But C Davood retorted by stating that the Muslim minority is living at a time when their position and citizenship seems to be at stake. So it is baseless to raise such claims linking them with Maoism. K Venu pacified the debates with his call to action stating, that the current situation calls for a union at a pan Indian level. The session was moderated by Abhilash Mohan, touching upon the UAPA Law as well.
